Plum blossom hammer
The hammer with needles
The plum blossom hammer (梅花 - Mei Hua - plum blossom) is a therapeutic tool consisting of a stick with several small needles at its tip. It is used for superficially tapping different areas of the body.
The plum blossom hammer technique is over 2,000 years old and has its origins in methods of superficial skin insertion using an acupuncture needle. Over time, this method evolved into a single tool consisting of several needles grouped together.
The name of the tool varies according to the number of needles it possesses: it is called plum blossom hammer when there are 5 needles, and seven-star needle when there are 7 needles.
The plum blossom hammer technique is based on a central theory of Chinese medicine, namely the “meridian” theory, according to which the surface of the body is linked to the depths and organs by a network of channels. In this way, the plum blossom hammer technique treats both local, superficial disorders and internal pathologies.
The therapeutic effects of plum blossom hammer include improving Qi and Blood circulation, unblocking meridians, dispersing swelling, stopping pain, dissipating Blood stasis, and eliminating pathogenic factors and disease.
Treatment with a plum blossom hammer is particularly effective on the back, on either side of the spine. Depending on the type of condition being treated, it can also be used on the head, face, neck, thorax, abdomen and limbs.
The plum blossom hammer technique is a simple, safe and effective therapy. It is also suitable for treating children.
